About Jennifer Vargas Pemberton, Ph.D.
Dr. Jennifer Vargas Pemberton has been a licensed Psychologist in California since 1997.  She received her bachelors degree in Psychology from UCLA and her Masters and Ph.D. from USC in Counseling Psychology. Currently, she is the Director of Training and Coordinator of the Crisis Program at the Child & Family Guidance Center North Hills and is a Research Psychologist at UCLA. Dr. Pemberton has received specialized training in child abuse and trauma and has extensive experience providing individual, family, and group therapy to children, adolescents and their families. In 1998, she developed and has been managing a crisis program for suicidal and homicidal children and adolescents and individuals experiencing acute trauma. Dr. Pemberton has received specialized training in evidenced based practices including Seeking Safety for adolescents and adults with substance use and high risk behaviors and Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy for treatment of trauma.  Bilingual Spanish and bicultural, she has extensive experience working effectively with Spanish speaking clients and other ethnic populations. As the Director of Training, Dr. Pemberton has provided training and supervision for staff, psychology interns, social work students, and postdoctoral fellows.  Along with clinical work, Dr. Pemberton has also been conducting research at UCLA since 1996. She has received government funding for research grants and has published numerous journal articles and book chapters on child abuse, substance use, and HIV risk taking among ethnically diverse populations.
